Boiling Springs Real Estate
History
When the area was settled in the late 1700s, the area became known as Boiling Springs because of a small spring! People came from all around to watch the spring shoot six feet into the air. Unfortunately the geyser slowly diminished in size over the years. Up until the land was commercially developed, the spring actually appeared as if it were boiling. In the 1930s it had become a shallow, barely bubbling stream and today the water is still.
Lake Bowen, north of Boiling Springs, was completed in the 1960s, as a water source and recreational facility. Despite the loss of the springs, water is still a big attraction for those living in and visiting the Boiling Springs area.
Community Development
As mentioned above, technically, Boiling Springs is a “census-designated place,” which means it’s an unincorporated area of Spartanburg County. However, it does feel and look and like a town. The population has seen tremendous growth in the area, which has resulted in a new high school that’s 33 percent larger than the old one, and dozens of new or planned residential neighborhoods that snake off in every direction.
The drastic population growth is the result of many businesses moving and opening up shop in Spartanburg County. The largest industries in Boiling Springs, SC are Manufacturing, Health Care & Social Assistance, and Educational Services.
With all of this growth, a citizen-led group called the Heart of Boiling Springs came together and spent 2 years creating a community vision initiative in Boiling Springs in order to help guide future Area Performance Planning for the Central Region of Spartanburg County.
