Transform Your Home With the Perfect Paint Palette

Each room in your home serves a unique purpose, so it doesn’t make sense to paint the whole house white, grey or beige. If you pick a palette of three to five complementary colors, you’ll be able to pair the right color with the right room to establish the mood or ambiance you want.

Where to start? Think about how you want color to make you feel. You can go online and look at Pinterest or Houzz for inspiration, or you may have a favorite theme like blue beachy tones, or terra cottas to evoke the beauty of the desert. You can also pull out a color from something you already own, like a favorite rug or painting.

Color trends last for three to five years, evolving into derivatives of previously popular shades. For example, leading color authority Pantone lightened and brightened earthy Terra Cotta to create “Peach Fuzz,” its Color of the Year for 2024. Peach Fuzz is a “velvety gentle peach tone” that “resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”

Peach Fuzz isn’t for everyone, but you may be able to visualize it as the perfect complement to a deep dramatic green in the living room, a cool soft blue for a relaxing den, or a sensual mauve for the owner’s suite.

Keep in mind that contrasting colors are energizing. Monochromatic colors should be calming, while neutrals are best used to showcase textures.
